Narrative of the Young Shepherd
In the heart of the mesmerizing rolling meadows, resided a shepherd boy. His being was essentially pure, and unsophisticated. His main role was mainly to look after his flock of ewes.
Their low murmuring and the rustling of the gales through the lone tree on the mountaintop were his main companions. Day after day, looking out for his charges inculcated in him a notion of calm satisfaction.
However, there were at times moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would pine for company. In one such instance because of sheer monotony, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty scheme.
Stories of wolves prowling on sheep had been heard times and again in the village. So, the boy opted to leveraged this fear and played a joke on the inhabitants.
One afternoon he raced into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken check here my sheep!” The terrified villagers sprinted up the hills for rescue but found nothing threatening.
The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This prank continued for a few more days. But, one day, a real wolf did attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy raced for aid screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the town only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the results of dishonesty.
The tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable to teaching the value of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the perils of false alarms.
